This year’s Acoustic Guitarathon will feature established and emerging locally based artists. From jazz master Joel Shapira (long a fixture both here and in New York) to internationally known blues artist Tom Feldmann. From multi-style players Ben Abrahamson and Ben Gateno to up-and-coming fingerstyle, steel-string virtuosos Adam Bjoraker and Mathias Simon. These established and emerging artists will be playing solo instrumental guitar in styles ranging from 1920s ragtime and blues to modern jazz and steel-string originals.

I'm an expatriate Memphis musician and an instructor at a private music college in Minnesota. I find a greater clarity in my appreciation for music from Memphis and the Mississippi Delta region, now that I've lived away from it for decades, than when I was growing up in the midst of it.
