John Lee Hooker

Celebrating John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1917 – June 21, 2001), an American blues singer and guitarist born in Tutwiler, MS who rose to prominence playing an electric guitar adaptation of Delta blues, incorporating a driving-rhythm boogie style, talking blues, and early North Mississippi Hill country blues.

I'm an expatriate Memphis musician and an instructor at a private music college in Minnesota. I find a greater clarity in my appreciation for music from Memphis and the Mississippi Delta region, now that I've lived away from it for decades, than when I was growing up in the midst of it.
