Celebrating Billy Herman Franze (September 14, 1948 – April 27, 2021), a Twin Cities guitarist born in Bluffton, Indiana. The Olivers, a Fort Wayne, IN band, had a national hit in 1969 with “I Saw What You Did,” featuring Franze on vocals. After relocating to the Twin Cities, he became a fixture with Dr. Mambo’s Combo, the weekly jam session at Bunker’s in Minneapolis. Franze worked on projects with Prince and toured with Jonny Lang.
Billy’s legal name was Billy Franze, not William Franze.
